Fanghook was named, obviously, after Hookfang. His first Rider, Gustav, idolized Snotlout and sought to pay tribute to his hero's dragon. That said, Gustav and Fanghook share a much healthier relationship that Snotlout and Hookfang (although that isn't saying much).

Thanks to Gustav's training, Fanghook behaves far better than his namesake. He has a good understanding of non-verbal commands, a true sign of a well-trained dragon. And unlike Hookfang, Fanghook does not seem to delight in burning his rider's bottom!
